Christ Volunteered to Help Mankind

Isaiah 6:8 records a willing volunteer responding to God’s call:

Isaiah 6:8

Isaiah 6:8 (WEB)

“I heard the Lord’s voice, saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am. Send me!’”

Many Christians understand this ultimately to point prophetically to Christ’s willing acceptance of the mission to redeem mankind.

1. Christ Came Willingly to Do God’s Will

Psalm 40:7-8

Psalm 40:7-8 (WEB)

7 “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come. It is written about me in the book in the scroll.

8 I delight to do your will, my God. Yes, your law is within my heart.’”

The Messiah willingly presents Himself to do God’s will.
Hebrews 10:5-10

Hebrews 10:5-7 (WEB)

5 “Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, ‘Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire, but you prepared a body for me;

6 You had no pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin.

7 Then I said, “Behold, I have come... to do your will, God.”’”

Hebrews directly applies Psalm 40 to Christ and shows Him consciously accepting His mission.

2. Jesus Was Sent but Also Willingly Came

John 6:38

John 6:38 (WEB)

“For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.”

Jesus describes Himself as willingly carrying out the Father’s purpose.
John 4:34

John 4:34 (WEB)

“My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.”

Christ viewed fulfilling God’s work as His sustaining purpose.
John 17:4

John 17:4 (WEB)

“I glorified you on the earth. I have accomplished the work which you have given me to do.”

Jesus completed the mission He voluntarily accepted.

3. Christ Voluntarily Gave Himself

John 10:17-18

John 10:17-18 (WEB)

17 “Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.

18 No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down by myself.”

One of the clearest statements that Christ willingly offered Himself.
Galatians 1:4

Galatians 1:4 (WEB)

“who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us out of this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.”

Christ willingly gave Himself for mankind’s salvation.
Ephesians 5:2

Ephesians 5:2 (WEB)

“Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God.”

Christ’s sacrifice was both voluntary love toward mankind and an offering to God.

4. The Servant Prophecies Show Willing Submission

Isaiah 50:5-7

Isaiah 50:5-7 (WEB)

5 “The Lord Yahweh has opened my ear. I was not rebellious. I have not turned back.

6 I gave my back to those who beat me, and my cheeks to those who plucked off the hair. I didn’t hide my face from shame and spitting.

7 For the Lord Yahweh will help me.”

The servant willingly submits to suffering without rebellion. I did not find a file in the uploaded list that contains Isaiah 50:5-7, so this reference is intentionally unlinked.
Isaiah 53:7

Isaiah 53:7 (WEB)

“As a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he didn’t open his mouth.”

The Messiah willingly submits like a sacrificial lamb.

5. Christ’s Mission Was Known Beforehand

1 Peter 1:19-20

1 Peter 1:19-20 (WEB)

19 “but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ,

20 who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world.”

Christ’s sacrificial mission existed in God’s purpose before mankind’s history unfolded.
Revelation 13:8

Revelation 13:8 (KJV)

“the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

Christ’s redemptive role was part of God’s purpose from the beginning.

6. Christ Humbled Himself for Mankind

Philippians 2:5-8

Philippians 2:5-8 (WEB)

“He humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, yes, the death of the cross.”

Christ willingly humbled Himself and obeyed even to death.

7. Strongest Direct Parallels

Together these passages form a consistent picture of Christ voluntarily accepting the mission of redemption before and during His earthly life.
