Why is Jesus Christ our Saviour?

Scriptures in this study:

1. Where Sin Started: Man’s First Disobedience

Genesis 3:6
"So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food... she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate."
This was the first sin — Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s direct command. That choice broke fellowship with God and brought sin into the world.

2. The Result: Sin and Death Passed to All

Romans 5:12
"Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—"
Through Adam, sin entered. With sin came death. Now every human inherits that problem — we’re born into a fallen race separated from God.

3. The Present Condition: All Have Sinned

Romans 3:23
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"
It’s not just Adam’s sin anymore. Each of us has personally sinned. We all fall short. This confirms we need a Saviour — we can’t fix it ourselves.

4. The Penalty: Death

Romans 6:23
"For sin pays its wage—death; but God's free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord."
The payment for sin is death. But God offers a free gift, not wages. That gift is eternal life, and it comes only through union with Jesus Christ.

5. The First Promise: A Saviour Foretold

Genesis 3:15
"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel."
Right after sin entered, God promised a solution. The “Seed of the woman” would crush the serpent’s head, though He Himself would be bruised. This is the first prophecy of Christ as Saviour.

6. The Fulfillment: God’s Love in Christ

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
God kept His promise. He gave His Son. The Seed of the woman arrived. Belief in Him reverses death — we don’t perish, we have eternal life.

7. The Means: Christ Suffered for Sins

1 Peter 3:18
"For Christ also suffered for sins once for all time, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God"
Jesus was the bruised heel from Genesis 3:15. He was just — sinless. We are unjust. He took our place, suffered once for sins, to bring us back to God.

8. The Exclusive Claim: No Other Name

Acts 4:12
"Salvation is to be found through him alone; in all the world there is no one else whom God has given who can save us."
Since sin came through one man Adam, salvation comes through one man Christ. No other name can undo what Adam did.

9. Prophecy: He Was Wounded for Us

Isaiah 53:5
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed."
This ties back to Genesis 3:15 — the bruising of Christ. He was wounded for our transgressions that started with Adam, to heal us.

Conclusion

Jesus Christ is our Saviour because sin started with Adam’s disobedience Gen 3:6 and passed to all men Rom 5:12, leaving us all guilty Rom 3:23 with the penalty of death Rom 6:23. But God promised a Saviour immediately Gen 3:15 and fulfilled it in Christ John 3:16, who suffered as the just for the unjust 1 Peter 3:18. There is salvation in no other Acts 4:12, as He was wounded for our transgressions Isa 53:5.
