Mark 12:38-40 CEV
(38) As Jesus was teaching, he said: Guard against the teachers of the Law of Moses! They love to walk around in long robes and be greeted in the market. (39) They like the front seats in the meeting places and the best seats at banquets. (40) But they cheat widows out of their homes and pray long prayers just to show off. They will be punished most of all.

(38) And He was saying to them in His teaching, "Be watching out for [or, Beware of] the scribes, the ones desiring to be walking about in long robes and [desiring] greetings in the marketplaces, (39) and first seats [fig., most important places] in the synagogues and first couches [fig., places of honor] at the banquets; (40) the ones devouring the houses of the widows [fig., illegally cheating widows out of their property] and in pretense [or, with a false show] are long [in] praying. These will receive more severe judgment [or, condemnation]."

38 And in his teaching he went on to say: "Look out for the scribes that want to walk around in robes and want greetings in the marketplaces 39 and front seats in the synagogues and most prominent places at evening meals. 40 They are the ones devouring the houses of the widows and for a pretext making long prayers; these will receive a heavier judgment."

(40) They take advantage of widows and rob them of their homes, and then make a show of saying long prayers. Their punishment will be all the worse!"
