Joshua 7:12-26 GNB This is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies. They retreat from them because they themselves have now been condemned to destruction! I will not stay with you any longer unless you destroy the things you were ordered not to take! (13) Get up! Purify the people and get them ready to come before me. Tell them to be ready tomorrow, because I, the LORD ( יהוה ) God of Israel, have this to say: 'Israel, you have in your possession some things that I ordered you to destroy! You cannot stand against your enemies until you get rid of these things!' (14) So tell them that in the morning they will be brought forward, tribe by tribe. The tribe that I pick out will then come forward, clan by clan. The clan that I pick out will come forward, family by family. The family that I pick out will come forward, one by one. (15) The one who is then picked out and found with the condemned goods will be burned, along with his family and everything he owns, for he has brought terrible shame on Israel and has broken my covenant." (16) Early the next morning Joshua brought Israel forward, tribe by tribe, and the tribe of Judah was picked out. (17) He brought the tribe of Judah forward, clan by clan, and the clan of Zerah was picked out. Then he brought the clan of Zerah forward, family by family, and the family of Zabdi was picked out. (18) He then brought Zabdi's family forward, one by one, and Achan, the son of Carmi and grandson of Zabdi, was picked out. (19) Joshua said to him, "My son, tell the truth here before the LORD ( יהוה ) , the God of Israel, and confess. Tell me now what you have done. Don't try to hide it from me." (20) "It's true," Achan answered. "I have sinned against the LORD ( יהוה ) , Israel's God, and this is what I did. (21) Among the things we seized I saw a beautiful Babylonian cloak, about five pounds of silver, and a bar of gold weighing over one pound. I wanted them so much that I took them. You will find them buried inside my tent, with the silver at the bottom." (22) So Joshua sent some men, who ran to the tent and found that the condemned things really were buried there, with the silver at the bottom. (23) They brought them out of the tent, took them to Joshua and all the Israelites, and laid them down in the presence of the LORD ( יהוה ) . (24) Joshua, along with all the people of Israel, seized Achan, the silver, the cloak, the bar of gold, together with Achan's sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys, and sheep, his tent, and everything else he owned; and they took them to Trouble Valley. (25) And Joshua said, "Why have you brought such trouble on us? The LORD ( יהוה ) will now bring trouble on you!" All the people then stoned Achan to death; they also stoned and burned his family and possessions. (26) They put a huge pile of stones over him, which is there to this day. That is why that place is still called Trouble Valley. Then the LORD ( יהוה ) was no longer furious.
Joshua 7:12-26 GW "The people of Israel will not be able to defend themselves against their enemies. They will run away from their enemies because the people of Israel are now claimed for destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy what I have claimed for myself. (13) "Get up! Tell the people, 'Get ready for tomorrow by performing the ceremonies to make yourselves holy. This is what the LORD ( יהוה ) God of Israel says: You have what I claimed for myself, Israel. You will not be able to defend yourselves against your enemies until you get rid of what I have claimed. (14) In the morning come forward by tribes to the tent of meeting. The tribe the LORD ( יהוה ) selects will come forward by families. Then the family the LORD ( יהוה ) selects will come forward by households, and the household the LORD ( יהוה ) selects will come forward man by man. (15) The man who is selected, along with everything he has, must be burned because he has stolen what the LORD ( יהוה ) has claimed. He has ignored the LORD ( יהוה ) 'S requirements and done a godless thing in Israel.'" (16) Joshua got up early in the morning. He had Israel come forward by tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected. (17) Then he had the families of Judah come forward, and the family of Zerah was selected. Then he had the family of Zerah come forward man by man, and Zabdi was selected. (18) Then he had Zabdi's household come forward man by man, and Achan was selected. Achan from the tribe of Judah was the son of Carmi, grandson of Zabdi, and great-grandson of Zerah. (19) Joshua said to Achan, "Son, give honor and praise to the LORD ( יהוה ) God of Israel! Tell me what you have done. Don't hide anything from me." (20) Then Achan answered Joshua, "It's true. I have sinned against the LORD ( יהוה ) God of Israel. This is what I did: (21) I saw a fine robe from Babylonia, five pounds of silver, and a bar of gold weighing about one pound among the loot. I wanted them, so I took them. You will find them buried inside my tent with the silver beneath them." (22) Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. The loot was buried inside with the silver beneath it. (23) They took the loot from the tent and brought it to Joshua and all the people of Israel. Then they laid it out in the presence of the LORD ( יהוה ) . (24) Joshua and all Israel took Achan (son of Zerah), the silver, the robe, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, and his tent-everything he had-and brought them to the valley of Achor [Disaster]. (25) Then Joshua said, "Why did you bring this disaster on us? The LORD ( יהוה ) will bring disaster on you today!" And all Israel stoned Achan and his family to death. Then they burned the bodies and piled stones over them. (26) They made such a large pile of stones over Achan that it is still there today. Then the LORD ( יהוה ) withdrew his burning anger. For this reason that place is still called the valley of Achor today.
Joshua 7:12-26 Darby And the children of Israel shall not be able to stand before their enemies: they shall turn their backs before their enemies, for they have made themselves accursed. I will no more be with you, except ye destroy the accursed thing from your midst. (13) Rise up, hallow the people, and say, Hallow yourselves for to-morrow; for thus saith Jehovah ( יהוה ) the God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, Israel: thou shalt not be able to stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from your midst. (14) And ye shall be brought near in the morning according to your tribes; and it shall be, that the tribe which Jehovah ( יהוה ) taketh shall come forward by families, and the family which Jehovah ( יהוה ) taketh shall come forward by households; and the household which Jehovah ( יהוה ) taketh shall come forward man by man. (15) And it shall be, that he who is taken with the accursed thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he hath, because he hath transgressed the covenant of Jehovah ( יהוה ) , and because he hath wrought wickedness in Israel.
(16) And Joshua rose early in the morning, and caused Israel to come forward by their tribes, and the tribe of Judah was taken. (17) And he caused the families of Judah to come forward, and he took the family of the Zarhites. And he caused the family of the Zarhites to come forward man by man, and Zabdi was taken. (18) And he caused his household to come forward man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken. (19) And Joshua said to Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to Jehovah ( יהוה ) the God of Israel, and make confession to him: tell me now what thou hast done, keep it not back from me. (20) And Achan answered Joshua and said, Indeed I have sinned against Jehovah ( יהוה ) the God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done. (21) I saw among the spoils a beautiful mantle of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a golden bar of fifty shekels weight, and I coveted them and took them; and behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it. (22) And Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent, and behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it. (23) And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel, and laid them out before Jehovah ( יהוה ) . (24) Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the mantle, and the bar of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up into the valley of Achor. (25) And Joshua said, How hast thou troubled us! Jehovah ( יהוה ) will trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones; and they burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones. (26) And they raised over him a great heap of stones, which is there to this day. And Jehovah ( יהוה ) turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called, The Valley of Achor, to this day.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
