John 1:6-18 CEV . . .God sent a man named John, (7) who came to tell about the light and to lead all people to have faith. (8) John wasn't that light. He came only to tell about the light. (9) The true light that shines on everyone was coming into the world. (10) The Word was in the world, but no one knew him, though God had made the world with his Word. (Pro 8:22-31) (11) He came into his own world, but his own nation did not welcome him. (12) Yet some people accepted him and put their faith in him. So he gave them the right to be the children of God. (Gal 3:19-29) (13) They were not God's children by nature or because of any human desires. God himself was the one who made them his children. (John 6:44) (14) The Word became a human being and lived here with us. We saw his true glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. From him all the kindness and all the truth of God have come down to us. (15) John spoke about him and shouted, "This is the one I told you would come! He is greater than I am, because he was alive before I was born." (16) Because of all that the Son is, we have been given one blessing after another. (17) The Law was given by Moses, but Jesus Christ brought us undeserved kindness and truth. (18) No one has ever seen God. The only Son, who is truly God [or a godlike one] and is closest to the Father, has shown us what God is like.
John 1:6-18 GW . . .God sent a man named John to be his messenger. (7) John came to declare the truth about the light so that everyone would become believers through his message. (8) John was not the light, but he came to declare the truth about the light. (9) The real light, which shines on everyone, was coming into the world. (10) He was in the world, and the world came into existence through him. Yet, the world didn't recognize him. (Pro 8:22-31) (11) He went to his own people, and his own people didn't accept him. (12) However, he gave the right to become God's children to everyone who believed in him. (Gal 3:19-29) (13) These people didn't become God's children in a physical way-from a human impulse or from a husband's desire to have a child. They were born from God. (John 6:44) (14) The Word became human and lived among us. We saw his glory. It was the glory that the Father shares with his only Son, a glory full of kindness and truth. (15) (John declared the truth about him when he said loudly, "This is the person about whom I said, 'The one who comes after me was before me because he existed before I did.'") (16) Each of us has received one gift after another because of all that the Word is. (17) The Teachings were given through Moses, but kindness and truth came into existence through Jesus Christ. (18) No one has ever seen God. God's only Son, the one who is closest to the Father's heart, has made him known.
John 1:6-18 NWT . . .There arose a man that was sent forth as a representative of God: his name was John. 7 This [man] came for a witness, in order to bear witness about the light, that people of all sorts might believe through him. 8 He was not that light, but he was meant to bear witness about that light. 9 The true light that gives light to every sort of man was about to come into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world came into existence through him, but the world did not know him. (Pro 8:22-31) 11 He came to his own home, but his own people did not take him in. 12 However, as many as did receive him, to them he gave authority to become God’s children, because they were exercising faith in his name; (Gal 3:19-29) 13 and they were born, not from blood or from a fleshly will or from man’s will, but from God. (John 6:44) 14 So the Word became flesh and resided among us, and we had a view of his glory, a glory such as belongs to an only-begotten son from a father; and he was full of undeserved kindness and truth. 15 (John bore witness about him, yes, he actually cried out—this was the one who said [it]—saying: “The one coming behind me has advanced in front of me, because he existed before me.”) 16 For we all received from out of his fullness, even undeserved kindness upon undeserved kindness. 17 Because the Law was given through Moses, the undeserved kindness and the truth came to be through Jesus Christ. 18 No man has seen God at any time; the only-begotten god who is in the bosom [position] with the Father is the one that has explained him.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
