2 Peter 2:1-13 GNB False prophets appeared in the past among the people, and in the same way false teachers will appear among you. They will bring in destructive, untrue doctrines, and will deny the Master who redeemed them, and so they will bring upon themselves sudden destruction. (2) Even so, many will follow their immoral ways; and because of what they do, others will speak evil of the Way of truth. (3) In their greed these false teachers will make a profit out of telling you made-up stories. For a long time now their Judge has been ready, and their Destroyer has been wide awake! (4) God did not spare the angels who sinned, but threw them into hell, where they are kept chained in darkness, waiting for the Day of Judgment. (5) God did not spare the ancient world, but brought the flood on the world of godless people; the only ones he saved were Noah, who preached righteousness, and seven other people. (6) God condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, destroying them with fire, and made them an example of what will happen to the godless. (7) He rescued Lot, a good man, who was distressed by the immoral conduct of lawless people. (8) That good man lived among them, and day after day he suffered agony as he saw and heard their evil actions. (9) And so the Lord  ( יהוה ) knows how to rescue godly people from their trials and how to keep the wicked under punishment for the Day of Judgment, (10) especially those who follow their filthy bodily lusts and despise God's authority. These false teachers are bold and arrogant, and show no respect for the glorious beings above; instead, they insult them. (11) Even the angels, who are so much stronger and mightier than these false teachers, do not accuse them with insults in the presence of the Lord. (12) But these people act by instinct, like wild animals born to be captured and killed; they attack with insults anything they do not understand. They will be destroyed like wild animals, (13) and they will be paid with suffering for the suffering they have caused. Pleasure for them is to do anything in broad daylight that will satisfy their bodily appetites; they are a shame and a disgrace as they join you in your meals, all the while enjoying their deceitful ways!

These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves. 2 Furthermore, many will follow their acts of loose conduct, and on account of these the way of the truth will be spoken of abusively. 3 Also, with covetousness they will exploit you with counterfeit words. But as for them, the judgment from of old is not moving slowly, and the destruction of them is not slumbering. 4 Certainly if God did not hold back from punishing the angels that sinned, but, by throwing them into Tartarus, delivered them to pits of dense darkness to be reserved for judgment; 5 and he did not hold back from punishing an ancient world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, safe with seven others when he brought a deluge upon a world of ungodly people; 6 and by reducing the cities Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them, setting a pattern for ungodly persons of things to come; 7 and he delivered righteous Lot, who was greatly distressed by the indulgence of the law-defying people in loose conduct— 8 for that righteous man by what he saw and heard while dwelling among them from day to day was tormenting his righteous soul by reason of their lawless deeds— 9 Jehovah  ( יהוה ) knows how to deliver people of godly devotion out of trial, but to reserve unrighteous people for the day of judgment to be cut off, 10 especially, however, those who go on after flesh with the desire to defile [it] and who look down on lordship. Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble at glorious ones but speak abusively, 11 whereas angels, although they are greater in strength and power, do not bring against them an accusation in abusive terms, [not doing so] out of respect for Jehovah. 12 But these [men], like unreasoning animals born naturally to be caught and destroyed, will, in the things of which they are ignorant and speak abusively, even suffer destruction in their own [course of] destruction, 13 wronging themselves as a reward for wrongdoing. They consider luxurious living in the daytime a pleasure. They are spots and blemishes, indulging with unrestrained delight in their deceptive teachings while feasting together with YOU.

(2) And many will follow their flagrant sexually immoral ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. (3) And in covetous desire [or, greed], with fabricated words, they will exploit youp, for whom their judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction will not sleep. (4) For if God did not spare angels having sinned, but having hurled [them] down to the deepest pit of gloom [Gr. tartarus], He delivered [them] to chains of thick darkness, being kept for judgment; (5) and He did not spare the ancient world, but kept Noah, [the] eighth person [fig., with seven others], a preacher of righteousness, having brought a Flood upon the world of the ungodly, (6) and having reduced [the] cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes, He condemned [them] to destruction, having set [them as] an example to [the ones] being about to be acting in an ungodly way, (7) and rescued righteous Lot, [who was] being distressed by the conduct in flagrant sexual immorality of the lawless [ones] (8) (for by seeing and hearing, that righteous [man] living among them, day by day [his] righteous soul was being tormented with [their] unlawful works); (9) [the] Lord  ( יהוה ) knows [how] to be rescuing [the] godly out of temptation, but to be keeping [the] unrighteous being punished for [the] day of judgment, (10) and especially the ones going after [fig., indulging] the flesh in lust of uncleanness [or, unclean desires] and despising authority. [They are] presumptuous [or, reckless], self-willed [or, stubborn], not trembling when they speak evil of glories [fig., angelic beings], (11) whereas angels, being greater in strength and power, do not bring a slanderous judgment against them before [the] Lord. (12) But these, like irrational animals [guided by] natural instinct having been born for capture and destruction [fig., slaughter], speaking evil of [or, blaspheming in] [things] which they fail to understand, in their destruction they will be destroyed, (13) receiving back a reward of unrighteousness, counting [it as] a pleasure [to be engaging in] self-indulgence in the day; [they are] spots and blemishes [fig., a disgrace], openly indulging in their deceitful ways while they feast with you,

(4) For if God did not spare sinning angels, but thrust them down into Tartarus, and delivered them into chains of darkness, being reserved to judgment. (5) And He did not spare the old world, but saved Noah the eighth one, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly. (6) And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, He condemned them with an overthrow, setting an example to men intending to live ungodly. (7) And He delivered righteous Lot, oppressed with the lustful behavior of the lawless. (8) For that righteous one living among them, in seeing and hearing, his righteous soul was tormented from day to day with their unlawful deeds. (9) The Lord  ( יהוה ) knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to reserve the unjust for a day of judgment, to be punished, (10) and especially those who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise dominion. They are darers, self-pleasing; not trembling at glories, speaking evil. (11) Where angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reproaching accusation against them before the Lord. (12) But these, as unreasoning natural brute animals having been born for capture and corruption, speak evil of the things that they do not understand. And they will utterly perish in their own corruption, (13) being about to receive the wages of unrighteousness, deeming indulgence as pleasure in the daytime, and reveling in spots and blemishes, feasting along with you in their deceits,
