1 John 3:13-18 ALT
(13) Stop marveling, my brothers [and sisters], if the world hates you*.
(14) _We_ know that we have passed over from death to life, because we are loving the brothers [and sisters]. The one not loving his brother abides in death.
(15) Every one hating his brother is a murderer, and you* know that every murderer does not have eternal life abiding in himself.
(16) By this we have come to know love, because that One laid down His life on our behalf, and _we_ ought to be laying down our lives on behalf of the brothers [and sisters].
(17) But whoever shall be having the goods of the world and shall be seeing his brother having need and shuts up his bowels from him [fig., refuses to show him compassion], how does the love of God abide in Him?
(18) My little children, let us not be loving in word nor in the tongue, _but_ in deed and in truth!
1 John 3:13-18 NWT
13 Do not marvel, brothers, that the world hates you. 14 We know we have passed over from death to life, because we love the brothers. He who does not love remains in death. 15 Everyone who hates his brother is a manslayer, and you know that no manslayer has everlasting life remaining in him. 16 By this we have come to know love, because that one surrendered his soul for us; and we are under obligation to surrender [our] souls for [our] brothers. 17 But whoever has this world's means for supporting life and beholds his brother having need and yet shuts the door of his tender compassions upon him, in what way does the love of God remain in him? 18 Little children, let us love, neither in word nor with the tongue, but in deed and truth.
1 John 3:13-18 CEV
(13) My friends, don't be surprised if the people of this world hate you.
(14) Our love for each other proves that we have gone from death to life. But if you don't love each other, you are still under the power of death.
(15) If you hate each other, you are murderers, and we know that murderers do not have eternal life.
(16) We know what love is because Jesus gave his life for us. That's why we must give our lives for each other.
(17) If we have all we need and see one of our own people in need, we must have pity on that person, or else we cannot say we love God.
(18) Children, you show love for others by truly helping them, and not merely by talking about it.
1 John 3:13-18 GNB
(13) So do not be surprised, my friends, if the people of the world hate you.
(14) We know that we have left death and come over into life; we know it because we love others. Those who do not love are still under the power of death.
(15) Those who hate others are murderers, and you know that murderers do not have eternal life in them.
(16) This is how we know what love is: Christ gave his life for us. We too, then, ought to give our lives for others!
(17) If we are rich and see others in need, yet close our hearts against them, how can we claim that we love God?
(18) My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
ALT - Analytical Literal Translation
ASV - American Standard Version (by the American revision committee in 1897).
Darby - 1889 Darby Bible
DRB - 1899 Douay-Rheims Bible
BBE - 1965 Bible in Basic English
LITV - Literal Translation of the Holy Bible
KJV - King James Version
MKJV - Modern King James Version
NWT - New World Translation
Webster - 1833 Webster Bible
RV - Revised Version
YLT - Young's Literal Translation
